If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

I think when you sign up for a teaching career, you also sign up for a permanent cold/flu. I have stocked up on L-Glutamine, AirBorne, Vit-C, all the gems but nothing seems to help. After a few days of recovery, the next one hits. I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired... In the world of work news (not to be confused with WoW), I've started parent conferencing and managing 50 or so students.

This was a much quieter and less geeky weekend than normal. Working Saturday, swimming in the outdoor pool at Stanford, the usual. A group of friends, hit a few frat parties on campus last night - the best one being a 'sailor party'. The frat house party atmosphere is definitely something we don't have back in Calgary.. it's exactly like the movies - drunk, underaged teenagers running around everywhere and dancing to all the songs that people create their own videos for on YouTube. I seriously felt SO old! Apparently it's a crime to say that you're a graduate student. Some nights of the week, you can even score free food at the frat houses... Friday night I ate soup consisting of canned beans, canned tomatoes, and canned chunks of sweet potato (no spices, etc.) Now, it actually sounds so much more appetizing than it was but I definitely thought of Rob (my brother) since it was the type of dinner he'd likely create. But free is free, so I really can't complain.

Next weekend being "Halloween weekend", I'll likely have more exciting news to report...

PICS
1) me in SF (months ago now)
2) me passed out in front of my computer
3) the pumpkins that Paul and I carved this year (get it, pumpkin pi)
4) hitting 100,000 kms!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to worry, I didn't take the picture driving down the freeway.

AhHhHhHHHHH!!!

I'm so angry with Whole Foods that I swear steam much be coming out my ears. Regional Office now claims that there is no evidence to support that walnuts were not listed on the ingredients, the store is not coming forward, nor the employee that I made look at the sign and cut open the muffin!! I can't believe it.. this is ridiculous!!!!!! I swear, walnuts were not posted on the sign visible to the customer, yet they were in my muffin in massive quantities... What am I suppose to do, take pictures of everything I buy?? Call over EVERY employee manager in the store to prove to them!?!?? Because I showed an employee in the bakery and surely that wasn't enough!!!!!!!! I've been posting my story on Yelp.com and Craigslist

In better news, my parents are coming down in less than 2 hours!! They're going to stay for the weekend :)

Paul and I went to a party at Yahoo! this week for del.icio.us - it was a lot of fun. Paul kept pointing out all these tech celebrities.. Here are some pictures (however, not taken by me - borrowed from flickr, those people deserve the credit!)

Another week came and went.

It turns out that the whole nut fiasco was WHOLE FOODS fault, not mine! When I went back in to double check the muffins, the walnuts were NOT listed on the ingredients... Needless to say, I made an employee open one up just to prove my point. Thus far, Whole Foods hasn't been overly helpful in apologizing ... although I did talk to the vice president at corporate on Friday and she promised that she'd look after me. RRRrrrrrrr. I like going there because they sell themselves as being very allergy-friendly, not because it costs $2 for a freaking apple. Not too happy with them at this point.. I even went back in and noticed that after they promised me they had changed their signage, they indeed did not (so I took pictures and have a muffin sitting in my freezer).

Last night a very cool guy that I met at a party Paul's professor hosted, invited Paul and I to a "World Music" party. We drank lots of wine, ate cheese with flowers in it, and enjoyed many yummy (nut free) desserts while listening to 14 songs from around the world. There were lots of cool people; many working for tech companies but I also met another girl my age working for at another after-school enrichment centre. The music party was held in this amazing backyard... he lives in a garage (like I use to) but this garage was 2 floors and completely decked out.. very sweet! I hung out with one of the founders of YouTube and another startup company owner was there.. this part of the world has so many cool things going on! Always progressing!

I just got home from a pig-roast on campus. There have been so many free food and social events going on lately... and the frat parties on Friday were completely crazy. I didn't think Stanford knew how to party.. but I was seriously one of the oldest people there.
